Match Preview – Tuesday 26th August 2025

The games are coming thick and fast as we’re back in midweek action, welcoming Tadcaster Albion to the Wezzie for our latest NCEL Premier Division fixture, kick off is at 7:45pm
Blues News
Any dreams of a trip to Wembley will have to wait once again for another season after the Blues went down to a 5-1 defeat against Maghull in the FA Vase at the weekend.
It was very much a game of two halves, with Frickley recovering from gifting Maghull a goal early in the first half to be largely the better side for the remainder but just unable to find a route to goal.
The second half was a very different story though with Maghull dominating as the Blues fell apart and some clinical finishing put Frickley to the sword. Well done to Maghull and good luck to them in the next round.
So it’s back to the NCEL. Frickley come into this one 9th in the early table after two wins and two defeats from the opening four league games. The latest coming last Tuesday with the 1-0 defeat away at Bottesford Town. Hopefully tomorrow is a chance for the Blues to bounce back to winning ways.
Form (Last 5) – LLWLL
League Standing – P4, W2, D0, L2, Pts 6, Pos 9th
Our Opponents
The visitors to Westfield Lane tomorrow night are Tadcaster Albion. The Brewers have flown out of the blocks this season under new manager Ryan Qualter, winning 4 of their opening 5 games to sit top of the NCEL table.
They too were in FA Vase action at the weekend, scoring late on to secure a 2-1 victory over Squires Gate. This followed a 3-0 victory over Horbury in the NCEL last Tuesday so it will be a very tough ask for the Blues but a good test nonetheless.
Form (Last 5) – WWLWW
League Standing – P5, W4, D0, L1, Pts 12, Pos 1st
Previous Meetings
It was a victory each for the two sides last season, and it was for the away side on both occasions.
The Blues were 3-1 winners at Tadcaster last August before the Brewers got their own back with a 1-0 win at Westfield Lane in December.
That victory was Tadcaster’s first win over Frickley since both sides returned to the NCEL, with Frickley having won both ties at Ings Lane. The other fixture at the Wezzie being played out as a 0-0 draw.
