It’s the penultimate game of the season for the Blues as we head to Golcar United for our rearranged NCEL fixture, kick off is at 7:45pm

Blues News

The home league campaign ended on Saturday with a disappointing 1-0 defeat against Parkgate. However, the result was the only disappointing part as it was a good team performance from the Blues who were unlucky to not get anything from the game.

The big positive though was the introduction of U23’s and academy prospects Harry Alexander, Alfie Studd, Tyler Sheard, Dylan Sefton and Wilfey Woodham into the first team fold. All put in a strong showing and looked more than comfortable in the senior game which definitely bodes well for the future.

The defeat sees the Blues remain 18th in the NCEL table on 33 points, which is what the final league position will be unless we secure victories in our final two games. Not the season we all wanted but Saturday showed that there are things to be optimistic about for the future. Watch this space!!

Our opponents

At the other end of the table, you will find our opponents for tomorrow evening, Golcar United. Golcar come into the game 3rd in the NCEL table, still needed a couple more points to guarantee a playoff spot.

They remained in the title race until last Saturday but a 2-0 defeat to Hallam, coupled with a 2-1 win for Silsden over Pickering, saw their title challenge come to an end and Silsden receiving the crown.

The goal will be to try and finish 2nd in the table to secure that crucial home advantage in both games of the playoffs should they get there, and a win tomorrow night is all but required to keep that aspiration alive. So whilst the Blues are looking to the future, Golcar’s focus remains very much on the present and they will be looking to keep that going tomorrow evening.

Previous Meeting

Golcar were victorious in the reverse fixture at Westfield Lane as they ran out 4-2 winners in what proved to be James Baxendale’s last game in charge.

It looked like being a very comfortable afternoon for the away side as they raced into a 3-0 lead inside 15 minutes courtesy of goals from Keegan Hartley and a Callum Petch brace.

But Frickley fought back in the second half with goals from Jack Varley and Jamie Tomlinson closing the gap before Alfie Wilkinson sealed the victory late on as the Blues pushed for an equaliser.
