Match Preview – Tuesday 23rd September 2025

The Blues return to action with the focus on the cup as we welcome SJR Worksop to Westfield Lane for our Sheffield and Hallamshire Senior Cup First Round tie, kick off is at 7:45pm
Blues News
It will be the Blues’ first fixture since the announcement of the departure of manager Tom Claisse last week following a 4-0 defeat away at Campion.
It was a fixture that saw the Blues play most of the match with 10 men after Tom Radley was sent off early on. Whilst Frickley frustrated the home side in the first half, Campion’s pressure eventually told and the Blues were unable to pose any real resistance or counter to prevent another heavy defeat.
Hopefully, a change of competition will allow the Blues to reset a little bit and start building in a new direction. The lads also found themselves with a free Saturday this week so have had some chance to rest up and come fresh into this game.
However, it is now 5 games without a win for the Blues so a big turnaround will be required to get things back on track as we look towards the remainder of the season.
Form (Last 5) – DDLLL
Our Opponents
Our First Round opponents in this season’s Sheffield Cup are SJR Worksop. SJR play their football in at Step 7 of the non league pyramid in the Central Midlands Alliance League, a couple of leagues below the Blues.
However, that certainly doesn’t mean the Blues will be in for an easy time as we saw last season when we also exited the Sheffield Cup to step 7 opposition following a 3-1 defeat to Hemsworth Miners Welfare
SJR are also having a relatively poor start to the season, winning only 1 of their 7 league games so far. Their last outing was also a defeat, seeing them lose 2-0 away at Kingsley Boys on Saturday
Form (Last 5) – DLWLL
