The 2024/25 season is just around the corner and the Preseason campaign comes to an end with a short away trip to Nostell Miners Welfare, kick off is at 7:45pm

Blues News

It had been a very positive preseason for the Blues up to Friday night before we were brought crashing back down with a disappointing 7-1 defeat against Pontefract Collieries. Josh Haigh’s 2nd goal of preseason was a plus point but it was overall not the sort of result that inspires confidence a week from the start of the season.

Nevertheless, it does only remain preseason and there will have been plenty for Bax and his team to learn from the match. Ponte were a high quality opponent who were solid at the back and ruthlessly punished our mistakes at the back. The real thing next week will likely not be quite as tough as this, but there remains creases to be ironed out this week ahead of our NCEL opener against Pickering at Westfield Lane on Saturday

Our Opponent

Another team who have had a pretty big overhaul off the pitch in the close season, Nostell Miners Welfare are also preparing for a start to the league campaign at the weekend in the NCEL Division 1, where they finished 17th last season and will be looking for a better campaign this time around.

This will only be the Welfare’s 4th preseason fixture before their new campaign begins against Horbury Town on Friday night. They have suffered a 5-0 defeat away at Silsden and then a 1-0 defeat at home to Wombwell Main. Their last game was a 1-1 draw against Hemsworth Miners Welfare but the game had to be abandoned due to a medical emergency. So they will be looking for a strong performance and result to go into the new season with

Previous Meetings

Despite being in separate leagues, the two sides met twice throughout the course of last season. A bonkers preseason game last year saw Frickley run out 5-4 winners thanks to an Al Keita brace, goals from Charlie Clegg and Nathan Fletcher before a late own goal sealed the game.

The sides then met again in the Sheffield Senior Cup in December with Frickley winning 4-1 on that occasion. Al Keita, Morgan James and a Lloyd Smith brace secured the victory on that evening.
