Football may not be coming home but the Preseason Friendlies do keep coming at the Wezzie as we welcome our 3rd NPL opponent in Brighouse Town, kick off is at the earlier time of 7:00pm.
Blues News
It has been an overly positive preseason campaign so far for Bax’s new look Blues side as they backed up last Tuesday’s 2-1 win over Sheffield FC with another strong performance against last season’s NCEL champions Emley on Friday in a 2-2 draw that was only minutes from another victory.
Goals are coming from numerous sources as well with Cyrus Rowe getting the equaliser on Friday before the Blues went in front through a massively popular Charlie Clegg strike, the local lad captaining the side following the passing of his Grandad and friend of the club John Stones earlier that day.
Crucially, numerous changes to the team don’t seem to weaken the performance on the pitch at the moment with every lad making a strong argument to be in the 11 against Pickering for our first league match in just under 2 weeks time. Definitely not an easy position for Bax, Flan and Andy to be in but a nice one nonetheless!!
Our Opponent
It’s another NPL test for the Blues as Brighouse Town are the latest visitors to Westfield Lane. Brighouse are coming into preseason looking for improvement on last seasons performance where they finished 19th in the table and only stayed up after receiving a reprieve.
They have appointed Grant Black as manager over the summer and his rebuild has a heavy NCEL influence over it with the likes of Danny Edwards and Cole Wildin moving from Knaresborough, Spencer Harris joining from Silsden and Kyle Trenerry joining from Albion Sports.
This will also be their 4th game of preseason. They opened with a 4-0 win over Athersley Rec before backing that up with a 2-1 win over fellow NCEL Premier side Tadcaster Albion. They suffered a set back at the weekend however with a heavy 5-0 defeat to NPL Premier side Worksop Town so will be looking to bounce back.
Form (Last 3) – WWL
Previous Meetings
This will be the first encounter between the two sides since our relegation to the NCEL in the 2021/22 season. That season saw both sides pick up 3 points in their home fixture with Frickley winning 2-1 at home thanks to goals from Kieran Wells and Brad Wells, whilst Brighouse won at home 3-1 later in the season, Rio Molyneaux getting the Frickley consolation
