It’s the biggest game of the season so far as the battle for NCEL Premier survival reaches boiling point with the visit of Winterton Rangers to Westfield Lane, kick off is at 3:00pm
Blues News
It was another disappointing afternoon last time out for a stricken Blues side as we continued our poor run of form at Manse Lane to see Knaresborough come away with a 3-0 victory.
However, given the number of players missing for the Blues, the lads that were there put in a gritty display and gave absolutely everything but weren’t rewarded for their efforts with any more points to show on the table.
Frickley remain 18th in the NCEL table on 30 points and are realistically now in a 3 horse race for survival in the NCEL Premier, with Winterton and Goole looking to close the gap behind. Goole did their chances no harm in midweek with a late 2-1 victory over Barton which saw them close the gap to the Blues to 9 points with 5 games remaining.
A victory for the Blues over Winterton tomorrow would cut the race down to 2 and be the knockout blow for Rangers, guaranteeing their relegation to the NCEL Division 1. It could also all but end Goole’s resistance depending on the result of their game against Handsworth, but that remains out of our hands and we can only deal with the situation in front of us.
So what this means is the Boys will need a massive push from everyone tomorrow as we look to pick up a crucial 3 points to push towards securing our NCEL Premier status. So let’s get behind the lads and push for that positive result!!
Form (Last 5) – DWDLL
League Standing – P33, W8, D6, L19, Pts 30, Pos 18th
Our Opponents
Our visitors to Westfield Lane are the aforementioned Winterton Rangers who will be in desperate search of 3 points to keep their own survival hopes alive.
Rangers have struggled this season after returning to the NCEL following relegation from the NPL last season and are staring down the barrel of back to back relegations after struggling with the demands of an NPL campaign.
They gave their chances a massive lift a few weeks ago with a surprise 2-0 victory away at leaders Silsden but have been unable to build on that, losing 2-0 at home to Eccleshill last week before a 3-0 midweek defeat away at Thackley, seeing themselves slip to the foot of the table in the process
It leaves Rangers 10 points behind the Blues with 5 to play and defeat tomorrow would guarantee their relegation as they would be 13 adrift with only 4 to play. So to say it’s a must win game for both sides is certainly an understatement!!
Form (Last 5) – LLWLL
League Standing – P33, W5, D5, L23, Pts 20, Pos 20th
Previous Meetings
It was a tight affair between the two sides when they met at the MKM Stadium back in November with the points being shared courtesy of a 1-1 draw.
It looked like Rangers may secure a much needed victory after Clayton Bryant put the home side in front with 15 minutes remaining. But the Blues fought back and an injury time header from Callum Brook secured what has turned out to be a valuable point for the Blues in this battle to beat the drop.
