The final month of 2024 gets underway with a first game at the Wezzie in over a month, and a local derby at that, as we welcome Rossington Main in the NCEL, kick off is at 3:00pm

Blues News

It’s been a month since the Blues last played at Westfield Lane and a period that has seen the Blues suffer a run of 3 consecutive defeats on the road, which was continued last time out with a 2-1 defeat away at Campion

It was a game that lacked clear cut chances for both sides but the home team capitalised on two defensive errors from the Blues and that was enough to see them take all 3 points, despite Rob Guilfoyle’s clever free kick bringing the Blues back into things just before half time.

It’s a defeat that sees Frickley slip further down the NCEL Premier table, sitting in 16th place on 22 points. The congested midfield has split slightly in recent weeks but the Blues do only remain 5 points from the top half so still plenty to play for if a couple of wins can be strung together.

And the last time we took to the Wezzie pitch saw a fantastic performance in Tom Claisse’s first game in charge and a 3-0 victory over Thackley. So there’s plenty of reasons to be optimistic for a positive result tomorrow.

Our Opponents

It will be a tough local derby however, as Rossington Main make the short trip to the Wezzie. Rosso come into this game also in mid table, sitting 12th, 3 points better off than the Blues though having played 2 fewer games.

Rosso made the playoffs in their first season at this level last year but have found their second campaign more difficult. They have also had a mid season management change, with former Frickley assistant gaffer Greg Young now taking the helm.

The Frickley references don’t stop there either with potentially 7 ex Blues involved in the Rosso squad for tomorrow’s fixture, the most recent of those being left back Will Sutton who made the switch to Rosso a few weeks ago.

Their last game saw them lose at home to title chasing Golcar United 3-0 but they had recorded back to back victories before that point so have some form coming into the game

Form (Last 5) – DLWWL

League Standing – P19, W7, D4, L8, Pts 25, Pos 12th

Previous Meetings

The Blues and Rosso last met at the start of August at Oxford Street with the two sides playing out a vastly entertaining 1-1 draw that was an advert for NCEL football.

Mitchell Langton had put Rosso in front at the end of the first half but Frickley fought back in the second half and levelled through a Callum Brook header. Both sides then had chances to win the game but couldn’t take them and it ended honours even.
