It’s the final game of the 2024/25 season and the Blues end with a trip to Penistone Church in the NCEL, kick off is at 3:00pm

Blues News

It doesn’t feel like 2 minutes since the Blues got the 2024/25 season underway with a 4-2 defeat at the Wezzie to Pickering. But here we are, 36 games later, at the end of yet another campaign.

The previous fixture 10 days ago, the 3-0 defeat away at Golcar, served as a bit of a snapshot of the story of the season as a whole, with the Blues playing some decent stuff in the game and having some very good chances but just not being able to find a break through whilst being punished at the other end.

It’s a defeat that means the Blues will end the season in 18th place in the NCEL Premier Division table regardless of the result tomorrow, currently sitting on 33 points with a maximum of 36 available. Let’s hope for a positive result tomorrow to end the season!!

Our Opponents

Frickley end the season with a visit to Penistone Church. Church come into the final weekend in 8th in the league with a potential high of 7th available to them should they secure victory tomorrow.

Penistone set the pace in the league during the early parts of the season but have fallen away as the campaign has gone on to finish just outside the play off places. They also suffered heartbreak in the league cup during midweek, losing on penalties to Knaresborough in the semi finals.

Their previous league game was an impressive 4-0 victory over playoff contenders Beverley so it will be a tough task for the final game for the Blues.

Form (Last 5) – DLWWL

Previous Meeting

It was Church who came out on top in the reverse fixture between the sides way back in August with a 4-2 victory at the Wezzie.

The Blues got off to a flyer when Jack Varley scored the opener inside 3 minutes but Penistone were level just 4 minutes later through Nathan Keightley.

It remained level until half time but Penistone scored two early second half goals through Sam Scrivens and a Jack Cairney OG. Frickley got a lifeline late on when Mackenzie Stocks also scored an OG but Keightley got his 2nd of the game almost straight from kick off to secure the points for Penistone.
