Match Preview – Saturday 4th October 2025

The Blues are in league action again this Saturday as we head to Beverley Town for our latest NCEL Premier Division fixture, kickoff 3pm.
Blues News
The Blues were without caretaker boss Martyn Woolford on Saturday as they travelled to old NPL foes Sheffield FC. The World’s oldest remaining independent club included several ex-Blues in their ranks including Brad Beatson, Nathan Whitehead and Joe West. Unfortunately, after holding firm for 40 minutes, it was 2 of those responsible for the home side’s opener as West crossed for Whitehead to head in. Then another assist by West started 8 minutes of second half madness that saw Alex Hardwick bag a hat trick. A 4th goal by Hardwick sealed a disappointing 5-0 defeat.
So, with Woolly back at the helm and looking for a big response, Frickley come into the weekend’s game in 16th place in the table on 11 points, with 18 goals conceded and only 1 scored in our last 4 league games. Whilst that leaves us just 3 points from the relegation spots, we are still only 9 points off the playoff places.

Our Opponents
Promoted to the NCEL Premier Division for the start of last season, this will be our 3rd competitive meeting with, and a 2nd visit to, Beverley Town.
Beverley finished their first season at step 5 in 4th position and went on to reach the playoff final. However, after leading 2-0 at Hallam, they drew 2-2 before losing on penalties, failing in their bid to reach the NPL. That disappointment was no doubt somewhat assuaged by going on to win the NCEL League Cup against Knaresborough Town at Scunthorpe United in May.
After a shaky start to this campaign, without a win in their first 5 league games, they have steadily returned to form and come into this one in 4th place on 22 points from their opening 14 games.
Beverley are currently the highest scoring side in the NCEL Premier Division but were clean-sheeted on Tuesday when they were beaten 2-0 at Pickering, their first defeat in 11 league games. So you can be sure they’ll be keen to bounce back from that on Saturday.

Previous Meetings
The first competitive meeting between Frickley and Beverley was last season, in September 2024, at Westfield Lane, when a last minute Bev goal levelled it at 3-3 to give them a share of the spoils. Then in January, Beverley ran out comfortable 4-0 winners in our meeting at Norwood Park.
