Match Preview – Saturday 4th April 2026
The curtain falls on the 2025/26 season with one final game at the Wezzie. It’s an important one too as Horbury Town make the short trip for a local derby with a lot at stake, kick off is at 3:00pm
The Blues were disappointing last time out in the 4-0 defeat away at Rossington Main. However, it’s a scoreline that doesn’t tell the full story, with the Blues creating plenty of clear chances in the first hour but unable to put any away which may have changed the contest before Rossington got a few slices of luck that turned the game in their favour.
However, results elsewhere ensured that the Blues will remain an NCEL Premier Division side for another season. Frickley are currently 13th in the table on 41 points and victory in the final game tomorrow would secure a highest ever points total and league finish in the NCEL Prem so still plenty to play for.
A late point for Rosso on Thursday night against Knaresborough has all but secured their status in the NCEL Prem as well. So it’s gonna be a 4 way fight on the final day to see who joins Wombwell in the relegation zone. Bottesford have it all to day, needing victory over Beverley to have any chance of staying up. If they can get the 3 points, then Albion Sports, Thackley and Horbury will all need points of their own to keep themselves above the drop zone.
Horbury will be looking to secure their points at the Wezzie tomorrow afternoon. They are the best placed of the 4 sides still in danger, sitting 16th on 38 points but with a far superior goal difference to the teams below. Realistically, a point will be enough for them to get over the line, this coming after they picked up a priceless win against Albion Sports last Saturday to keep their fate in their hands.
It was a point apiece in the reverse fixture back in November when the two sides played out a pretty eventful 0-0 draw with both sides playing most of the game with 10 men after Gibril Bojang and Will Jenkinson were both shown first half red cards.
