The Blues are back in league action as we welcome Hallam to Westfield Lane in the NCEL, kick off is at 3:00pm

Blues News

All attention for the Blues turns to the league now as our final cup campaign came to an end in midweek following the 3-1 defeat to Hemsworth in the Sheffield Senior Cup.

It was a disappointing evening and a relatively poor performance from the Blues as Hemsworth defended well and took their chances to take a deserved victory and dishing out a first defeat for Jack Varley and Lewis Binns since taking on the interim management position.

However, in the league, the Blues will be looking to build on back to back victories against Goole and Knaresborough that have seen us rise to 14th in the table and into the middle pack, where only 6 points separate the teams from 6th down to 17th so there’s still everything to play for.

Our Opponents

It’s a tough ask for the Blues though this weekend as we welcome Hallam to Westfield Lane. The Countrymen sit just outside the playoffs in 6th place after a slightly sticky few weeks on the field.

There have been plenty of changes off the field as well in the player department in recent weeks with the likes of Chris Salt, Alex Peterson, Ross Goodwin and Iren Wilson departing. However, replacements have been quick with new arrivals of Greg Smith, Brodie Litchfield, James Cadman and Alfie Smith among others re-bolstering what remains a very strong squad

Hallam were also in Sheffield Senior Cup action in midweek, drawing 3-3 with Swallownest before eventually coming through on penalties. Their last league outing was a 1-0 defeat away at Silsden last time out so they’ll be looking to get back to winning ways in the league on Saturday

Form (Last 5) – LWDLW

League Standing – P15, W6, D4, L5, Pts 22, Pos 6th

Previous Meetings

The two sides met just 6 weeks ago in the NCEL League Cup at Sandygate, where the Countrymen ran out comfortable 6-2 winners over the Blues.

Iren Wilson put Hallam in front before Jamie Tomlinson immediately responded to level the match. Hallam then stretched away in the first half with goals from Chris Salt and a Calum Ward double to go 4-1 in front.

Frickley pulled one back just before half time with a strike from Luke Williams to give the Blues some hope. But a second for Wilson and a Rio Allan penalty in the second half secured a comfortable night for the home side.
