The run of tough away games for the Blues continues as we head to league leaders Silsden in the NCEL, kick off is at 3:00pm

Blues News

It was a 4th successive defeat for the Blues last time out as another tough away day saw us suffer a 4-0 defeat at play off chasing Beverley Town.

It was a first half that could have gone either way with chances for both sides to open the scoring. However, once Beverley got their noses in front, Frickley were unable to respond and ended up suffering a heavy defeat.

Results last weekend and in midweek have gone against the Blues to compound the issue, resulting in a weekend starting position of 17th in the NCEL table with 12 games remaining. But with a run of home games against the teams around us to come, there’s still plenty of opportunities for points in the coming weeks

Our Opponents

The task at hand for the weekend ahead however is the toughest one there can be with a trip to league leaders Silsden AFC

The Cobbydalers are having a fantastic season, sitting 6 points clear at the summit of the NCEL on the same or less games than the sides closest to them.

They are currently on a 15 game unbeaten run in the league that started with victory over Frickley at Westfield Lane back in September, with 13 of those games being wins. Their only defeat in that time came in the FA Vase against West Didsbury and Chorlton back in December.

They were given a scare last time out though as Handsworth mounted a late comeback from 4-0 down to pull the game to 4-3 but Silsden held on for the victory.

Previous Meeting

As mentioned, Silsden picked up the 3 points in the reverse fixture at Westfield Lane back in September but had to survive a spirited Frickley comeback to nick the game 3-2 in stoppage time.

It looked like being a routine game when Kayle Price and Casey Stewart put Silsden 2-0 in front but Frickley thought back to leave courtesy of a Charlie Clegg strike and a Harry Coates own goal.

However, just when it looked like Frickley could earn an unlikely point, Cody Cromack stepped up to fire in from range and break Blues hearts to give Silsden all 3 points.
