Match Preview - Saturday 23rd August 2025

The road to Wembley starts again as we bring our 2025/26 FA Vase campaign by welcoming Maghull FC to Westfield Lane, kick off is at 3:00pm

Blues News

The Blues come into this one on the back of a disappointing 1-0 defeat away at Bottesford Town on Tuesday night. It was one of those games where the lads never really got going and suffered the loss as a result. But sometimes that’s football, those games happen and it’s about how you respond to them.

A return to the Wezzie may be just what the lads are looking for, having won each of the games played their this season so far, including the 1-0 win last Saturday against Thackley AFC.

The FA Trophy has not been a happy hunting ground for Frickley in the past couple of seasons, falling at the first hurdle last year after a penalty shoot out defeat to Sandbach United. So hopefully we can go a step better this year and build a bit of a cup run.

Our Opponents

Our visitors in this years FA Vase tie are Maghull FC. Maghull ply their trade in the North West Counties and are currently top of the 1st Division North with 3 wins and a draw from their opening 4 games.

Their previous game last Saturday saw them record an impressive 5-1 victory over Nelson FC so, despite being a step lower than the Blues, they will certainly provide a very strong test.

Like the Blues, they also fell at the first hurdle in the FA Vase last season, albeit in a very tough tie away at Bury FC, which saw them lose 3-1. So they will also be looking to build into a cup run this season.

Previous Meetings

This will be the first ever meeting between Frickley and Maghull. The closest the two sides ever came to each other was in the early 1970’s when both sides played in the Cheshire League, though respective campaigns were 4 years apart. So this will be a new experience for both clubs!!

Match Information

So come on down to the Wezzie as we look to pick up the win and push into an FA Vase campaign. Admission prices are below:

Adults – £7.00

Concessions – £5.00

U16’s – £2.00

Please note that, as this is a cup game, it will be all pay on the gate, season tickets will not be valid for this fixture.

A reminder as well that the result must be decided tomorrow. Should scores be level after 90 minutes, the match will go straight to penalties with no extra time.

We will also be having a minutes silence before the game in memory of Max Johnson, better known as ‘Mighty Max’

Max is an 8 year old boy who was diagnosed with Brain Cancer at just 10 months old. He’s been fighting since and Maghull have helped to raise money for him through his cancer battle.

Sadly, Max passed away last week so we will be remembering this remarkable young lad prior to kick off tomorrow. The thoughts of everyone at Frickley are with Max’s family and friends during an incredibly difficult time.

Let’s get down to the Wezzie and get behind the Blues as we look for an FA Vase victory. Hope to see you all there!!
