It’s that point in the season where every game matters but this one is massive!! It’s an old fashioned 6 pointer as we welcome Goole AFC to the Wezzie in the NCEL, kick off is at 3:00pm

Blues News

The Blues have had an unexpected 2 week break from action following the late postponement of last week’s fixture against Golcar United, so are still riding high on the back of Keanan Mannings’ last minute winner against Handsworth last time out.

Perhaps more importantly is the action that’s been going on at other grounds over the last two weeks, with both Goole and Winterton catching up on their games in hand but not picking up the points to close the gap ahead.

The Blues remain 18th in the NCEL table but still have a 12 point cushion over the relegation zone below, with Winterton now having played the same number of games and Goole with just one in hand. So it’s a strong gap and potentially only a couple of wins will be enough to secure NCEL Premier football for another season.

Our Opponents

Saturday’s fixture sees one of the two sides trying to chase the Blues down visit the Wezzie as we welcome Goole AFC. The Vikings find themselves rooted to the foot of the NCEL table after a difficult season and will need a very strong end to the season to drag themselves out of the relegation zone.

They have started to pick up some momentum over their recent games with victories over Tadcaster and Bottesford being followed by draws against Silsden and Eccleshill. They pushed Albion all the way on Monday night but fell to a 2-1 defeat to end their mini unbeaten run. However, they will be looking to pick up a massive win on Saturday so will be a tough ask for the Boys in Blue.

Previous Meetings

It was an emotional occasion at the Victoria Pleasure Ground back in October as the Blues overcame the setback of James Baxendale’s resignation the previous week with a massive 3-0 victory.

The first half was a fairly tame affair before a superb strike from Charlie Clegg on the stroke of halftime put the Blues in front. Frickley then had their chances to extend the lead in the second half and eventually did with Rob Guilfoyle scoring the second 10 minutes from time. Marcel Chipamaunga went on to add a 3rd in stoppage time to secure the win.
