It’s Non League Day and it’s our final home game of the season as we welcome Parkgate to Westfield Lane, kick off is at the earlier time of 12:30pm

Blues News

With safety secured the week before and the pressure being lifted, the Blues gave a very strong account of themselves in a 2-0 defeat to high flying Hallam last time out.

Whilst a 2-0 defeat isn’t anything to get overly excited about, the fact that Hallam scored 6 past the Blues in both of the matches earlier in the season showed just how much of an improved performance it was and definitely something positive to build upon.

The result left the Blues in 18th in the NCEL Premier table with only 3 games now remaining of the 2024/25 season. A highest possible finish of 17th is now the only thing left to fight for this season after the last round of results.

With that in mind, tomorrow’s fixture will see a number of our academy players given an opportunity to impress in front of the home crowd, with Alfie Studd, Tyler Sheard, Wilfy Woodham and Dylan Sefton all set to feature in tomorrow’s squad. Will be great to see some young local talent in a Blues shirt so be sure to give them a big cheer at the game tomorrow!!

Our Visitors

Our visitors for our final home game of 2025 will be Parkgate. The Steelmen were promoted as champions from the NCEL Division 1 at the end of the last campaign but, unlike many promoted sides in recent seasons, have not capitalised on the momentum to challenge at the top this time around.

They come into this weekend in 13th place in the league table though have found a little bit of form in recent weeks, having won 3 of their last 4 league games with the defeat coming to champions elect Silsden.

Their most recent performance was a 2-1 home win against Eccleshill United last time out and they will still have an eye on a top half finish with 2 games remaining, being part of a tight pack of teams around that middle area of the table. So they will be a tough test for the final home game of this season.

Previous Meetings

It was the Steelmen who came out on top when the two sides met earlier in the season, picking up a 3-2 victory in a very exciting encounter.

It was the Blues who struck first when Joel Spence scored inside 7 minutes to put the visitors in front, a lead that was held until the 60th minute when Shay Evans-Booth equalised from the penalty spot.

Gadhafi Kiwanuka then put Parkgate in front before Niall Butchart looked to have snatched a point for Frickley with a late equaliser. However, Kiwanuka had the final say when he restored Parkgate’s lead a few minutes later to secure the 3 points.

Match Information

So come along for one final Wezzie bow to wrap out this season. As it’s our final home game, and Non League day as well for good measure, we’ve got plenty of things planned, including reduced admission prices from normal:

Adults – £5.00

Concessions – £3.00

U16’s – £1.00

Drinks prices in the bar have also been slashed for tomorrow as we look to ‘drink it dry’ at the end of the season so even more incentive to come along and bring some mates.

Don’t forget, it’s an earlier kick off at 12:30pm so plenty of time to get this match in before visiting another of the local non league offerings at 3:00pm if that’s your sort of thing!!

Or stay around after the full time whistle where the Gaffer’s sons U9’s team will be playing one of our academy sides on the Wezzie pitch in a great chance for them to experience playing on the hallowed turf. Be great to see many of you staying behind to cheer them on after the main event.

If that’s wasn’t enough, we’ll be holding our Easter raffle with all proceeds to go towards the club, tickets will be available from the half time draw / programme stand on arrival

A big thank you as well to our very own Gerry Wray who is sponsoring the match ball for tomorrow’s game!!

Finally, we will also be announcing our Supporters Player of the Year before kick off ahead of our End of Season Presentation Evening at the Soldiers tomorrow night. Tickets are still available for the evening event, costing £5.00 with the option to pay on the door also available.

With so much going on, why would you want to be anywhere else this Non League Day? So grab a friend or two and get yourselves up bright and early to the Wezzie as we look to end the season on a high. Hope to see you all there!!
