Another road to Wembley starts here as the Blues begin their FA Vase campaign for the 2024/25 season by welcoming Sandbach United to the Wezzie, kick off is at 3:00pm

Blues News

The Blues will be hoping that the FA Vase campaign is more successful than the NCEL League Cup campaign which came to an abrupt end on Tuesday night with a much changed side falling to a 6-2 defeat away at Hallam.

It was a strange encounter with all 6 of Hallam’s goals coming as a result of set pieces, with Frickley actually creating the more clear cut chances from open play throughout the match and scoring goals from Jamie Tomlinson and Luke Williams.

However, Hallam were ruthless with how they exploited the Blues defensive weaknesses and were overall just too strong for the Frickley back line to handle. So plenty to ponder and take forward into another cup campaign this weekend.

The Blues received a bye through the First Round Qualifying of the FA Vase meaning that we’ve already progressed further than we did in last season’s competition which came to an end in the aforementioned First Qualifying Round with a lacklustre 2-1 defeat to Barnton.

It’s only the Blues third ever FA Vase campaign, the previous season seeing victories over Chadderton and Irlam before a First Round exit to Emley at Westfield Lane. So something more in line with that campaign is what the target will be this season!!

Form (Last 5) – LDWDL

Our Opponents

The visitors to Westfield Lane are Sandbach United. Sandbach are a Step 6 side who play their football in the North West Counties League First Division South.

They have had a pretty strong start to the season, currently sitting just outside the playoffs in 8th place with 18 points from their opening 12 games. They come into this one on the back of a victory last time out, a 3-1 home win over our old friends Market Drayton Town.

Despite playing a step below the Blues, the Bach are not to be underestimated as they have already seen off NCEL Step 5 opponents in the FA Vase this season, with a 2-0 victory over Parkgate in the last round. They will be looking for another upset on this occasion

Form (Last 5) – WDLDW

Previous Meetings

This will be a first ever meeting between Frickley and Sandbach United which is always an exciting prospect!! You have to go back to the 1960’s and 70’s for any previous connection between the two, with the Blues facing Sandbach Ramblers on a number of occasions in the old Cheshire League. Ramblers would go on to become one of a number of teams that merged to later form Sandbach United in it’s current guise
