Match Preview - Saturday 18th October 2025

The Blues are back on the road this weekend as we head to Golcar United for a rearranged NCEL fixture, kick off is at 3:00pm

Blues News

This is normally the section of the preview where I talk about the last game for the Blues. But unless you’ve been living under a rock since Tuesday, you probably already know the full story already. However, that’s not going to stop me regardless!!

The Blues come into the weekend after progressing in the NCEL league cup on Tuesday night following the most dramatic of wins against Bottesford Town by a mere scoreline of 7 goals to 6

It was and will probably remain the most remarkable football match I have ever seen, as the Blues showed an enormous amount of team spirit to fight back from 5-1 down to be level at 5-5 12 minutes later, only to then concede again before the two stoppage time goals completed the ultimate comeback

A game that will do the confidence of the attackers the world of good, the confidence of the defenders maybe less so, the team morale every positive possible and as for the rest of us, well we’d probably like something a little calmer this time around!!

Back to the league, the Blues come into the weekend in 15th in the NCEL league table following last Saturday’s 3-0 defeat to a high flying Handsworth side. However, there were some positives in that game as well so plenty to build on and after the madness on Tuesday, it’s anyone’s guess what tomorrow will bring!!

Form (Last 5) – WLWLW

League Standing – P14, W4, D2, L8, Pts 14, Pos 15th

Our Opponents

It’s a rearranged fixture this weekend as we face Golcar United for the second time this season. The game has been brought forward from it’s initial January slot due to both teams having a blank weekend after not progressing in the FA Vase

After a slow start to the campaign, the Villagers have started to find some form in recent weeks. They remain 18th in the NCEL table, however 9 of their 10 points have come from their past 6 games, with only 1 defeat in that period.

This upturn in form was shown last time out as they recorded a 4-1 victory in the NCEL League Cup away at a Barton Town side who have started the season very strongly.

So the Villagers will prove a far tougher test than their league position suggests and the Blues will certainly need to be at their best to take something from the Skye Direct Stadium tomorrow

Form (Last 5) – LWDDW

League Standing – P12, W2, D4, L6, Pts 10, Pos 18th

Previous Meetings

As said, this is already the second meeting of the two sides this season, with Golcar winning the reverse fixture at Westfield Lane 6-1

George Doyle gave the Villagers the perfect start 2 minutes in before Will Jenkinson diverted into his own goal to give Golcar a 2-0 lead a half time.

Frickley got a lifeline when Tom Alngohuro curled in from 25 yards out. But Golcar strung into life and took the game away with 4 quick fire goals, 2 from Zach Rushworth, one from Jerome Bedeau and then a Doyle penalty to secure the 3 points
