After 3 consecutive away games, it’s finally time for football to return to the Wezzie as we welcome Albion Sports for our latest NCEL Premier Division tie, kick off is at 3:00pm
Blues News
The Blues picked up their first win of the new season and the James Baxendale era on Tuesday night, courtesy of a 3-1 win away at Tadcaster Albion.
A Rob Guilfoyle header, Jack Varley penalty and second half strike from substitute Harry Spooner were enough to secure the 3 points despite a late consolation from Luca Bolino. Truth be told, the scoreline should have been more emphatic as the Blues missed a number of clear cut chances but it was still a fantastic performance to follow the 1-1 draw at Rossington the previous week.
That’s now the second season in a row where our opening win has come at Tadcaster, having previously not picked up a point there in the NPL days. The win moves us up to 13th in the early NCEL standings
Form (Last 5) – WLLDW
League Standing – P3, W1, D1, L1, Pts 4, Pos 13th
Our Visitors
Albion Sports promise a significant test for our developing Blues side as we look to build momentum. They made the playoffs last season after a very strong campaign and have been fancied by many to do the same after retaining most of their squad from last season.
They recruited strongly as well, adding significant experience in striker Nathan Cartman from Campion, attacking midfielder Paul Walker from Emley and goalkeeper Jordan Porter from Liversedge. However, top scorer Robbie Fox did depart for a higher level which will have been a big blow, and the club also confirmed the departure of fellow striker Ash Flynn on Thursday evening.
It hasn’t been the start to the season that Albion will have been looking for as they remain winless following their opening 3 league games, having picked up 2 draws and a defeat whilst also losing in the FA Cup. They did pick up an encouraging 0-0 draw with Silsden on Tuesday night, however, which they will be hoping to build on tomorrow.

Previous Meetings
Albion have not proved happy opponents for Frickley since dropping into the NCEL, having yet to pick up a win against the Bradford based side. Albion did the double over the Blues last season is the space of around 3 weeks, with a 2-1 win at Westfield Lane being followed by a 2-0 win in Bradford. The only game not to finish in defeat for the Blues was a 1-1 draw at Westfield Lane the previous season.
