Match Preview – Saturday 11th October 2025

The Blues return to Westfield Lane for the first official match of the Martyn Woolford era as we welcome Handsworth for our latest NCEL encounter, kick off is at 3:00pm
Blues News
A new era starts once again at Westfield Lane as Martyn Woolford prepares for his first game as the Frickley permanent manager following his brief stint as interim following the departure of Tom Claisse
It comes after a brilliant team performance saw the lads run out 4-1 winners away at a Beverley Town side who have just won NCEL Club of the Month for September such was their form before that game, which further cements how impressive a result that was.
For perhaps the first time this season, the Blues were fully clinical up front, with goals from Tom Alngohuro, Destiny Nnenanya, Lucas Robinson and Tyler Sheard securing the points. Sadly Beverley were able to net a consolation so no clean sheet but it was still a strong defensive performance that the lads can hopefully build from.
The victory stopped the recent rot of results and saw the Blues climb to 14th in the NCEL table on 14 points from the opening 13 games of the 2025/26 season. With the league table still tightly packed, there’s plenty to play for and hopefully Woolly can now push the lads on for the remainder of the campaign!!
Form (Last 5) – LLWLW
League Standing – P13, W4, D2, L7, Pts 14, Pos 14th
Our Opponents
Woolly’s first opponents will be Handsworth. They travel to Westfield Lane sitting 7th in the league table, having picked up 20 points from their 13 games so far.
They are one of the league’s form sides at the moment, having won their last 4 games in all competitions and 5 of their last 7, with only 4 teams boasting better records over that same time period.
They were in League Cup action in midweek, securing passage to the next round with a 2-0 victory over Leeds UFCA. They were also victorious in their previous league game after picking up a 4-0 victory over Knaresborough Town so it will certainly be a very tough test for the Blues tomorrow
Form (Last 5) – LWWWW
League Standing – P13, W6, D2, L5, Pts 20, Pos 7th
Previous Meetings
Last season it was the tale of the late goals in both fixtures with each team scoring late in stoppage time in each fixture to secure the 3 points in their respective home games.
Handsworth undid a late Blues equaliser to snatch the 3 points at Mount Pleasant with a 2-1 victory last October, before Frickley repaid the favour with a late goal of their own back in March, also by the same scoreline.
That was the Blues first league victory over Handsworth since both sides have been in the NCEL, with the majority of previous encounters ending with the points shared. So it’s always been a tight encounter between the two sides.

Will’s younger brother Owen was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma back in 2022 and has been fighting the disease ever since so Will and the rest of #TeamJenko will be raising money throughout October to support PACT as part of Owen’s ongoing battle. So please give generously as we support this fantastic cause.

With so much going on off and on the pitch tomorrow, why would you want to be anywhere else? So get yourselves down to the Wezzie and back the Blues as we search for another 3 points. Hope to see you all there!!
