After a night that ended well for the Blues on the pitch, it also started well off it after skipper Joel Spence committed his immediate future to the club, signing a contract extension to cover the 2026/27 season

Joel joined Frickley at the start of the 2024/25 season and was a standout player throughout the campaign, picking up a clean sweep at the end of season awards last year and providing a critical contribution to help the Blues avoid relegation, especially after taking the armband midway through the campaign.

Subject to a lot of interest last summer, Joel put pen to paper to stay with the Blues for this season and has again been a massive part of the dressing room both on and off the field, consistently delivering game after game at the heart of midfield.

He once again becomes the first lad to commit for the new campaign and we’re all delighted that we will continue to see him in a Frickley shirt for many more games to come

Speaking in his post match interview last night, the Gaffer had the below to say about retaining Joel for another season:

’Delighted (that Joel has resigned). He’s a big part of the team and a big character on and off the field, with his work rate setting the tone for the rest of the lads.

Delighted to have him as my first ‘signing’ as a manager. He’s a huge one to get over the line and sets the tone for next season
