You’ll be aware that we’ve just signed Danny Burns – he’s our captain this season – he’s 6 foot 5 – that’s a lot of Burns….

Not enough for us though!!! We are super excited to announce the signing of Josh Burns, his younger bro!!

‘The Firestarter’ is a defender & he started his career at Chesterfield & has also played for Lincoln City, Stafford & most recently Sheffield FC (pre lockdowns).

Here are his thoughts on joining the Azzurri, playing alongside Big Bro & who is the biggest ‘bailer’ when it comes to team nights out……

Webmaster – tell us a bit about yourself. What position you play, what type of player are you & who have you played for previously

Josh Burns – I am a Centre Half but also can fit in at right back. I like to see myself as a ball playing defender that isn’t afraid of putting my body on the line for the team. I am pretty young only just turning 20 last month so the list of teams ain’t too long. I was an academy player at Chesterfield then was a scholar at Lincoln City. After this I spent a season with Stafford to then join Sheffield FC for a short spell before coronavirus occurred.

WM – what about life outside football – job / family / other interests etc

JB – Outside of football I am a gardener and enjoy going to the gym in my spare time. Obviously all the fans will know my brother, the new skip.

WM – you’re another big lad, straight off the ‘Burns Big Lad Production Line’, did you always want to be a centre half/defender?

JB – as a youngster I was a winger so clearly, like Gary Neville says, I failed at that position ? However ever since I was put at centre half at a younger age I have loved every minute and will carry this into the Frickley squad to help get them clean sheets in.

WM – You’re also another ex-Imp and ex-Stafford man so you’ll have played with and against some decent players, who were the best of ‘em and why?

JB – at my time with Lincoln I got the pleasure to train with the first team a few times so have managed to get the chance of learning from the best. Lee Frecklington, our centre mid, being one of them. He was a very good role model for me to watch and try to take in all his attributes on and off the pitch. Marking players like Matt Rhead in training also helped me to gain experience of mens football as a 16-17 year old lad

WM – how did the phone call go when Frecks got in touch about joining us?

JB – the chat with the Gaffer to get me in made things very easy for me to make my decision to join Frickley. We are both on the same page with our aspirations for the season and I feel like this will be a great chance for me to make a name for myself in mens football and thrive on the opportunity to play with some class lads and high quality players.

WM – what’s your USP (unique selling point) that is going to make the crowds remember you at The Wezzie?

JB – hopefully I feel like my passion will help the crowd to remember me. I am passionate about football and I hope the fans will see this and it will transfer to them to get right behind us this season.

WM – there’s a real ‘family’ feel at the club this season, you & Danny being brothers & the uncle / nephew relationship with the Gaffer & Lee Frecks. That’s going to make it a pretty unique dressing room

JB – it will definitely be unique. However I feel like, although we are family at the end of the day, we are there to do the same job so in some ways it doesn’t really matter. However the family bonds will definitely add to the togetherness of the team & that will be very important to keep throughout thick and thin this season.

WM – what are your hopes for the team, & for yourself, this season

JB – my hopes for the season are definitely to win the league. Every player wants to lift that trophy at the end of the season and that’s what we will work hard to get to. I feel like we can definitely achieve this

WM – final one, you’ll have been on some team nights out. Who is the one player that you could guarantee would cry off at the last minute?

JB – to be fair, due to being a ‘young un’ I have only had the chance to have a couple of team nights out. Only person I can think of who bottled it would be Matt Hill who, to be fair, is happily whipped so I’ll let him off!!
