Hemsworth U21s 2 Frickley Athletic U23s 5
The Blue Juggernaut rolled into Fitzwilliam last night…..& rolled out again with 3 more cherries in the glove compartment – making it 10 games, 9 wins, 1 draw
The Blues scored 5 goals for the second game running as they travelled to local rivals Hemsworth U-21’s & they collected all 3 points. Charlie Clegg got them off to a flying start after good work from Wade Ripley, Ben Ellison-Tope then had a deflected shot find the back of the net. He then turned provider supplying a lovely through ball for the impressive Josh Haigh to chip past the advancing goal keeper.
We were now playing some superb football and scored the goal of the game when the hugely talented Wade Ripley (the Bretton Baggio) exchanged passes with nearly all his teammates before playing a 1-2 with Charlie Clegg and then curling an unstoppable left foot shot into the far top corner, a stunning finish to a great team move.
We took the foot of the gas second half and conceded a couple of sloppy goals that let the talented opponents reduce the scoreline and in fairness to the home side they never stopped to trying to play football.
The next goal was, all of a sudden, vital and the magic man Wade Ripley fed Isaac Jeffreys who coolly squared the ball to Josh Haigh who quite remarkably back heeled a cheeky finish to put an end to the home sides brave comeback (reminiscent of the Denis Law backheel that relegated Man Utd in 1974, Google it)
Defender George Bland (Virgil Bland Dijk) took the Bob Smith man of the match award for his commanding performance in the heart of our defence.
Next up a home game on Tuesday 14th March v Ilkley Town U-21’s -come on everyone, get down to the Wezzie & watch these boys – they really can play
