After some recent cup action, focus turns back to the league as we welcome Silsden AFC to Westfield Lane in our latest NCEL fixture, kick off is at 7:45pm

Blues News

It has been a damaging week for the Blues cup competition wise with defeat in the league cup against Hallam being followed by a painful penalty shootout exit in the FA Vase against Sandbach United on Saturday.

The Blues had turned the tie around after Sandbach took an early second half lead, with a Rob Guilfoyle penalty and a Jamie Tomlinson header putting the Blues in front. However, Sandbach levelled with a penalty of their own and then held their nerve to take the tie on spot kicks.

So the main focus now for the Blues is the league. The Blues come into this one sitting 10th in the NCEL Premier Division Table with 12 points from the opening 9 games. Forgetting the cup matches, the Blues are currently on a 3 game unbeaten run in the league that we will look to continue in tomorrow night’s fixture.

Our Opponents

It will be a tough ask though as we welcome Silsden AFC to Westfield Lane. The Cobbydalers have had an encouraging start to the league campaign, sitting in the playoffs in 4th position on 15 points from their opening 9 games.

The Silsden line up will certainly have at least one familiar face in the line up as former Blues Goalkeeper Callum Bradbury is now their number one behind an experienced back line. There’s also plenty of attacking talent in their ranks with Kayle Price, Nash Connolly and Tom Greaves all being experienced attackers at this level.

Silsden do come into this one on the back of a defeat however, having narrowly lost 1-0 late on against Barton on Saturday. They were 4 games unbeaten prior to that though so will provide a serious test for the Blues as September draws to a close.

It has been very much honours even between the two sides in our NCEL meetings, with both sides recording 2 victories each in the 4 games played. Last season, the Blues were victorious at Westfield Lane with a 2-0 win but suffered a 4-2 defeat at the Regal Interiors Stadium later in the season.
