The 2022/23 season draws to a close for the Azzuri as we welcome Goole AFC to the Wezzie for our final game of the NCEL campaign, kick off is at 3:00pm
The Blues may have fallen to defeat at Emley on Tuesday night but there was a lot of positives to take from the performance as the lads battled and pushed the hosts all the way to show the fight and desire that’s typified them throughout the season. But ultimately, the main story was developing elsewhere as Goole’s defeat at Garforth guaranteed our league status and means we go into tomorrow with the pressure off!!
I don’t think anyone will deny it’s not been an easy season. But it’s easy to forget that, 6 weeks before the first ball was kicked at Maltby, we had no team. But from that adversity came this plucky bunch that have delivered so much over the course of the season and deserve to have a game tomorrow to enjoy and show what they can do. This season was always going to be one of survival and that has been achieved!!
Our visitors tomorrow though are the aforementioned Goole AFC who find themselves 19th in the league and still in the thick of the relegation battle after their 4-1 defeat at Garforth on Tuesday. They’ll be desperate for the win to keep themselves alive so the game will still have some bite to it
And it was Goole who came out on top in the reverse fixture back in November with a 2-1 win on what was one of the more disappointing days for the Blues. Lloyd Smith got the consolation goal for the Blues
So come along tomorrow for one last time in 2022/2023 to celebrate all that has been achieved this season and to look forward to what next season will bring. All of the usual amenities will be available, so why not come early for a pint or two?
We’ll also be presenting our Player of the Season Awards for this year prior to kick off so get there early to congratulate the winners.
