We’re back on our travels again this weekend as we make the trip to Handsworth FC for our latest NCEL encounter, kick off is at 3:00pm

The 2023/24 season is rapidly entering its final stages as only 12 games remain to see out what has been an overall positive campaign. The Blues remain in the top half of the table in 10th place on 36 points and, whilst the playoff chase looks to be getting more difficult each week, there’s still a chance for a good end to the season and a top half finish would be a marked upturn on last season.

It’s 10th vs 11th tomorrow as Handsworth also come into this one on 36 points, only behind Frickley on goal difference so it should be a competitive encounter. They picked up their first league win since before Christmas last time out, with a highly respectable 2-1 win away at high flying Thackley.

There was nothing between the sides at Westfield Lane earlier in the season either, as the game finished 1-1. Al Keita had put the Blues in front early in the game but his effort was cancelled out by a Craig Nelthorpe penalty. Handsworth were reduced to 10 men shortly after but, despite controlling most of the game, Frickley were unable to find a way through a dogged Handsworth defence and the points were shared.

Frickley will be boosted by John Stancliffe and Robert Cheetham joining Pat McGuire’s back room staff this week as assistant manager and 1st team coach successfully. We wish them all the best in their new roles and hope to see a positive impact on the field tomorrow

So come along and get behind the lads for the relatively short trip across to Sheffield tomorrow. If you can’t make it, live commentary will be available through PodBean from around 2:55pm

Let’s hope for a return to winning ways and a positive result!!
