Frickley Athletic Football Club Academy Newsletter May 2020
This season will certainly be one we will not forget in a hurry. First there was the ridiculous weather and now the Coronavirus Pandemic. I hope everyone is keeping well and looking after yourselves and each other.
I am sure you will have all seen, heard and read various articles and interviews regarding the football season and the state of play with leagues nationally and at grassroots level. As it stand all the leagues have announced that this years football season has now come to an unexpected close and all results and league positions have been voided. This has been so unexpected as every player within our academy will have played every match with their hearts on their sleeves and put in 110% effort into every match. This as a committee we are so proud of.
This week there has also been an announcement made from Frickley Athletic regarding the departure of Football Director Ryan McKnight. Last year Ryan helped the academy move over to become part of Frickley Athletic and has given the academy his full support in continuing to ensure that the Academy continued to run and be part of the community of South Elmsall. I would like to thank Ryan for his time, commitment and enthusiasm he showed to the academy and I hope Ryan will continue to follow and celebrate the successes of our academy and players. Going forward the academy will continue to operate at full strength and Ben, Phil and myself will continue to give our time and dedication to our players, coaches and parents.
I would also like to ‘Thank You’ as parents for supporting the academy and your children ensuring that they enjoy the sport we all love and for standing out in the rain, wind, snow, and whatever else the great British weather throws at us. We had planned to have a full academy presentation at the end of May, however due to unforeseen circumstance beyond our control this has had to be postponed. Please watch this space as we will ensure that an end of year presentation will go ahead and all the players successes and achievements will be recognised.
Over the last 12 months we have seen some changes within the academy, all have been positive and we have had many things to shout out about and I hope this will continue well into the 2020/21 season.
During the opening of the new season we welcomed some new coaches and were able to set up our U8s age group. As the season progressed we continued to welcome new players and new coaches into different teams throughout the club and we were able to introduce our U6’s. The future looks bright!
In December we held our first Christmas party and Father Christmas paid us a visit to draw the Christmas raffle.
Our coaches have continued to develop professionally and we have had coaches complete their FA Level 1 coaching qualification and others have continued to develop their first aid skills and obtain safeguarding qualifications. All coaches have completed their DBS/CRB checks and we have maintained our Charter Standard Affiliation.
We have had a very successful season although it hasn’t ended as we would have liked.

We hope you will continue to support us in the coming season and when we get back on the pitch we welcome anybody who wants to be more involved.
