3 is the magic number
The Azzurri, by their own admission, were lacklustre on Saturday. They were anything but lacklustre last night – I guess they were abundantly lustre?!
Tom Davie came back into the starting line up, having been unavailable on Saturday, with Nathan Newell moving to the bench. Tom Clare was on the bench too as a certain Tyler Williams returned to the hallowed turf of the Wezziecana.
So, to the game – I’ve been accused of writing biased match reports, which I find rather offensive……I’m much more one-sided than that. So just to even things up a bit, here is the Loughborough view of things.
Back to me – the early goal certainly settled the boys down, & the penalty was the turning point for me. Miss that & the opposition get some momentum, as it was Margs pulled off a cool as you like Panenka & that was pretty much game over with less than 40 minutes gone.
To seal the deal Haze (from distance) got his 101st career goal early in the 2nd half after a superb ball from Sam Liversidge. Later on came the move of the game as Tom Davie threaded a great ball for Nathan Newell who whipped a cross in & Margs hit the outside of the post with his shot.
So 3 was the magic number:
- 3rd league win on the bounce
- 3rd league clean sheet
- 3 points
- 3 goals now for Haze & Margs
WEBMASTER MOTM – Personally I thought it was an excellent, controlled team display by the Blues. The back line were on point, with Sam & Todd taking care of business & Tom Davie on Big Dog duties & on the rare occasion that they were breached up stepped Tom Jackson. TJs domination of his box was quality. Hollingsworth & Currie did all the unseen dirty work in midfield. With Tyler & Rieves giving it the afterburners down each flank & with Haze & Margs in Beast Mode it wasn’t a great evening to be a defender. But I’m giving the Glitterball to one of the unsung players who just gets on with doing his job & played his part in the 3rd clean sheet. Well done Brad McGowan – whose modus operandi is: break up the attack, get the ball under control, deal with it & repeat
TWITTER POLL MOTM – Margetts came out on top after an assured display, with Brad McGowan in 2nd & Tom Jackson just behind him. Jake Currie also polled votes. Thanks to everyone who voted.
107 through the gate & thank you to everyone who supported the club. If you missed the game, you are the ones who missed out.
Next up we are away to Stamford on Saturday, if you are interested in travelling on the supporters coach, please contact John Longbottom – see previous posts for details
