Recap
Lincoln Moorlands Railway 2 Frickley 2
This game was all about journeys. The media teams’ was a pain, only just making kickoff. Frecks’s and our Lincoln-based contingent’s was short. For Michael Hollingsworth and Tyler Williams it was one of homecoming, back in Frickley colours again.
Any length of journey would be worth it as the Moorlands Sports Ground (pictured bottom), home of the Central Midland League’s Lincoln Moorlands Railway, is quirky and delightfully ramshackle, with a small but partisan crowd.
The home side took an early lead after some defending that suggested that some of the Blues had travelled a lot further than they had.
But Wellsy’s hard running lead to a penalty before the break which Lee Frecks, on decidedly home turf, dispatched with a minimum of fuss.
The second half started with another defensive lapse to put Lincoln ahead again. Then Brad Wells took centre stage repeatedly probing the home ramparts, including creating a goal for Macca that was disallowed for an offside visible only to the linesman. However, a goal simply wouldn’t come.
Despite a relatively laboured display from the Azzurri, honours did eventually finish even after a moment of individual brilliance from Craig King (think Pele in Escape to Victory!), his overhead kick beating the keeper to square the game.
