Recap
Grimsby Borough 5 Frickley 1
On to Grimsby Borough and a more civilised kickoff time on the day before England would play in their first final in 55 years. Exciting times.
The Bradley Football Centre is pretty similar to Skeggy’s ground to be honest (pictured, bottom – spot the difference!). The biggest difference being the lack of beer on offer, much to the disappointment to one or two of our number.
The game was an odd one. You wouldn’t expect a 5-1 drubbing for the Azzurri from a NCEL Premier Division side to come with many positives but, to these uneducated eyes, it did.
We were much brighter in attack than at Skeggy, threatening the Grimsby goal from start to finish. More clinical finishing would have made this a much closer affair. Lee Frecklington’s first goal in Frickley colours was a high point. Going 2-1 down within 2 minutes of taking the lead – less of a high point. And as Woolly’s missed penner, well, it was that sort of weekend for penalties.
However, Frecks, Woolly, Wellsy, Craig King and Joe West were looking sharp. Meanwhile, in goal, Jake Askew continued to impress.
