Recap

Frickley 3 Jubilee Sports 0

(Sheffield Cup)

Frickley booked a place in the next round of the Sheffield Cup with a professional and comfortable 3-0 victory over Jubilee Sports. Despite a 15 minute delay to kickoff, The Blues never looked troubled after taking the lead, courtesy of an opening strike from Tom A and a brilliant brace from Destiny.

The game began with The Azzurri putting the pressure on immediately as Tom A had a sighter from range in the 1st minute.

Jubilee settled into a defensive rhythm, offering little threat aside from two speculative efforts, a comfortable catch for Sykes in the 12th minute and a wormburner fielded in the 20th.

The Azzuri maintained the intensity, with Destiny flicking a ball toward goal that lacked power and Tom A forcing the Jubilee keeper to push his shot past the post. And Jenko dinked a ball into the box which Destiny couldn’t quite connect with on the half hour.

The breakthrough finally arrived in spectacular fashion just a minute later. Tom A unleashed a rasping drive from 25 yards that nestled perfectly in the bottom corner, before treating us to his somersault goal celebration.

Soon after, TK was forced off with an injury, being replaced by Radz

Destiny teed up Butch in the 42nd minute but his curling effort went narrowly wide. Then a corner from Tom A almost resulted in a second goal on the stroke of half time as his corner almost crept in under the bar but the keeper flapped it away. HT 1-0.

The Blues wasted no time in getting straight back at it after the restart. A cross from Tom A lead to a close range scramble involving Sheard, signalling The Blues’ intent.

The advantage was doubled in the 51st minute through a moment of individual brilliance. Destiny collected the ball from a throw in, executed a quick twist and turn, then expertly flicked it past the Jubilee keeper with the outside of his boot.

8 minutes on, Destiny chalked up another goal when Tom A played an inch perfect ball into his path, and Destiny made no mistake, rifling it into the net.

Despite a flurry of substitutions, The Boys in Blue continued to create a few chances in the final half an hour. Destiny had a shot blocked after outmuscling his marker. And substitute Luis AF was the architect of another opportunity, using his blistering pace to race past a defender before his cross eventually resulted in Spence shooting wide. FT 3-0.

As a wise man (Andy Steele) once said, the best outcomes from one of these games is a win, a clean sheet, no bookings and no injuries. Well, to paraphrase another wise man (Meatloaf) – taking TK’s knock into account – 3 out of 4 ain’t bad.

WEBMASTER MOTM – it was a composed and controlled performance throughout, avoiding a potential banana skin. El Binno in the middle of defence and Spence sitting in front of the back 4 were calming influences. Other standouts included bright showings by the fullbacks Jenko and Gagen, and the young pair of Sheard and Keyghobadi. Good to see Luis AF back in action too. But the Glitterball goes to the dynamic duo of Destiny and Tom A. They ran the show going forward. Brill, bruvs!

TWITTER MOTM – Tom Alngohuru takes it from Destiny Ifeanyi Nnenanua, Harry Gagen and Joel Spence. Thanks to all who voted.

SPONSORS/VOLUNTEERS MOTM – Tom Alngohuru was chosen by Alex Hewitt. Well done, Tom!
