Recap
We’ve all seen some dour nil nils in our time…..but this was the very antithesis of them. A game that had skill, endeavour, commitment & a bit of handbags – just needed a goal for the Azzurri to make it a perfect evening
The Gaffer had to shuffle the pack due to injury & unavailability & the quick turnaround from Sunday – Sam Cullingworth made his competitive debut, Keelan Grist & Matty Hughes made their first starts & Lewis Binns moved to centre half
A very bright start on a very bright evening – Grist burst into the box & was scythed down in the first minute, nothing given. Even Donny fans at the Keepmoat could see it was a stonewall penner. Then Keelan created a chance for himself & shot just wide & then he had the ball in the net but not given for offside
Kofi, Green, Keita & Matty Hughes all peppered the goal but half time was goalless
More of the same in the 2nd half – Green & Czubik having shots saved then the chance of the half fell to Lewis who headed over from close range from a corner. Collier & Czubik had further chances to break the deadlock but the game remained at parity. At the other end the visitors hit the post but that aside the home goalmouth was relatively drama free thanks to an excellent display by the back 4 & Safe Hands Preston
So it ended nil nil & we were perhaps a little disappointed – but let’s put it all into context, Garforth finished 3rd last season & our team didn’t exist a few weeks ago. 4 points from 2 league games & 2 clean sheets – we’ll take that won’t we?
Here’s what The Gaffer thought about proceedings
WEBMASTER MOTM – tough one after a great team performance. Murillo & Ben Hall excellent in defence alongside debutant Cullingworth, & Charlie Preston handled well & pulled off a great stop. Kofi & Collier got down in the trenches to allow Green to orchestrate things once again. Keita & Hughes (& later Czubik) were lively up top. But for me it came down to 2 players; Binns was an absolute giant at centre half standing in for Varls, but I’m giving the Glitterball to Keelan Grist – he had no right to create the havoc that he caused in the away defence, it was a joy to watch
TWITTER POLL MOTM – this is the one that matters, as it is the fans vote. Lewis Binns took this one by some distance, with Keelan, Sam Cullingworth & The Guvnor Green tucked in behind him. Kofi also polled votes. Thank you to everyone who voted
252 through the gate – a very good crowd on a warm Tuesday evening. Thank you to everyone who supported us & if it was your first time at the Wezziecana we’d love to see you again very soon
Next up we are away to Bottesford on Saturday, 3pm kick off. We are running a supporters coach to the game – it will leave North Elmsall at 1pm, £10 per person, £5 under 16s. If you want to book a place, please call or text Ian on 07790 569075 or DM Joel via Twitter (@jpclarkson2)
