I have never seen a referees assessor play a full 90 minutes before…..

So a D to end a recent run of Ls but a frustrating afternoon. Frustrating because it mirrored a bit of a recent pattern – 20 odd minutes of domination, concede a soft goal, then panic for a while before regaining composure & dominating the game again.

Earlier in the season we were creating myriad chances but not taking many. We’re creating less at the moment so our conversion rate is probably better but we still need to be much more clinical. & so it was, we created about 5 decent chances (the easiest on the eye being Ben Halls long range effort that cannoned off the bar) but went in at half time 1 down.

Less than 10 minutes into the 2nd half & we were at parity. George Green scythed down in the box, jumps up, waits for all the opposition to get on with all their spoiling shenanigans then sends the keeper the wrong way.

Hemingway received a 2nd yellow shortly after – being down to 10 gave us a pretty hefty obstacle to overcome but we tried – Czubik in particular had 2 good efforts & Rich Collier put one of his free kick ‘specials’ inches wide but the biggest talking point was the non award of a penalty when an Albion defender tried to give Kofi a DIY vasectomy. It really was a horrible horrible ‘tackle’ (on Kofis ‘tackle’) but nothing given – check out John Hobsons matchday images to see for yourself

WEBMASTER MOTM – a few to pick from. Chaz Preston dominated his box & was well supported by Fletcher & Rich Collier when he reverted from his midfield position to cover for Jake Hemingway after his 2nd yellow. Kofi was his usual self. Up top Cubes looked threatening & Big Al was dangerous but a heavy pitch spoiled his usual tricks. Greeny was imperious in midfield again & is becoming more of an attacking threat – as evidenced by the penalty award. But I’m giving the Glitterball to someone who might have gone under the radar a bit – Alex Varley – he was tremendous all game.

TWITTER POLL MOTM – the important one as it is voted for by the fans & George Green came out on top with Nathan Fletcher just behind him. Varley & Collier were tucked in behind & Cubes polled too. Thank you to everyone who voted. All the votes will be collated to give us an October Player Of The Month, the results of which will be announced in the next few days.

147 through the gate – a snooker maximum – thanks to everyone who turned out to support the boys.

No interviews this week as one of the Media Team felt proper poorly after his COVID booster – but got no sympathy at home & he had to get his own beer from the fridge….

Next up – we are away to Hallam FC next Saturday, let’s get plenty of Azzurri to the game to back the boys. El Binno will be eligible to play having served his ban & Keelan Grist & Sam Cullingworth will be back in contention, having been away with Barnsley FC Shadow Development squad
