Recap

Emley 3 Frickley 0

The Blues went down 3-0 against a highflying and playoff-chasing Emley side but were never outplayed, battling all the way. And more importantly, results elsewhere means that relegation is no longer a possibility so we will be playing NCEL Premier Division football next season!
Pat McG put out the same starting eleven as at Eccleshill, and Alex Varley returned to the bench.
The Blues were straight in Emley’s faces as Lloydy’s 1st minute shot was deflected wide and then Richard Collier hit the post from the resulting corner.
But Emley eased into the game and took the lead admittedly against the run of play on the quarter of an hour mark. An overhit corner was crossed back in and the fullback fired high into the net from a narrow angle.
Then, other than HDH having to make a good save in the 20th minute by HDH, it was even stevens. Or it was until the final minute of the half, when the same Emley fullback drilled in anlow shot, again from a narrow angle, to double their advantage. HT 2-0.
The Azzurri were better in the second half, with Josh Haigh probing the Emley defence on several occasions, and not always being stopped by fair means. And a HDH save and goal line clearance, just after the hour, kept the score as it was.
However, Emley scored a third and effectively ended the game as a contest with 11 minutes to play when the forward tucked away a loose ball in the six yard box. FT 3-0.
Look, we all know there’s work to do but Emley are no mugs, they’re third in the table and barely had a significant decision go against them so the result is what it is. But we aren’t going down, nothing else matters, does it? And it doesn’t matter how we did it either, as a wise man once said – read it it the Green ‘Un….
WEBMASTER MOTM – no-one had a bad game and everyone put in a shift. The
standouts at the back to these eyes were Ryan Basi, Elliot Owen and Brandon Murillo who didn’t mess about, played to their strengths and got rid. The Colonel was everywhere and some of his runs were absolutely lung-busting. And Big Al and Lloydy did what they do against a tough back four. But I’m awarding a joint Glitterball this time to Josh Haigh and Wade Ripley. This pair of young guns snapped at defenders’ heels and constantly looked for an opportunity. Bravo boys!
TWITTER MOTM – Ryan Basi takes the public vote from Richard Collier, Josh Haigh and Wade Ripley. Thanks to all who voted.
