Recap

I think a lot of us left the game wondering what had just happened

For an hour Azzurri were on blistering form – the best I’ve seen them play this season – constantly threatening the Ossett goal & looked comfortable at 2 nil. Then came the second of 2 major talking points – a straight red for Ossett & everything started to fall apart from that point

Aiden Smith was in goal for The Hangman (who was ill) & new signing Seyavoush Esmaeily (defender from Teversal) was on the bench. We are still without the injured Stacey, Big Dev, Tyreece & Crouz

Dream start for the boys when Jimmy Matthews hit a lovely shot on the turn from the edge of the box on 7 minutes

Nathan Whitehead had a couple of efforts on goal, Arun Jones nearly scored direct from a corner & Wellsy headed just wide

The first of the 2 major talking points happened towards the end of the half (brilliantly captured by John Hobson as you will see in his photo blog). An absolute horror ‘tackle’ on Michael Hollingsworth – it had so much wrong with it I don’t know where to start – a red card all day every day, but not this time – the perpetrator only got a yellow. But it meant that we lost Holli who had to come off – thus depriving us of our skipper & consistently our best player.

10 minutes into the 2nd half & it’s 2 nil – a Joe West cross & The Bomber powers home with his head – a great finish

Shortly after Bobby Faulkner hits the inside of the post & the ball is scrambled clear – 3 nil would have been game over

Then came the red, then came our downfall

We were still creating chances though – Josh Scott had a powerful header saved then Nathan Perks pulled off an audacious back heel & the keeper pulled off a worldie to keep it out

Could we / should we have tried to shut up shop whilst we were leading or even at 2-2?? I think we were lulled into a false sense of security by the Ossett defence, who were so bad they lead us to believe that we might score every time we attacked.

4-2 was the final score & it was a real shame for the boys as they had performed so well – in fact it was the best 90 minutes of attacking football that I’ve seen in a good while but we shot ourselves in the foot somewhat down the other end

WEBMASTER MOTM – Defence was very strong for 65 minutes, Holli gaffered midfield until he got GBHed, alongside Kegan. Rod Orlando Young was on fire on the wing & Bomber is back to his old levels & they were supported well by Matthews & Scott. But I’m giving the Glitterball to Arun Jones – he was instrumental in everything we did

TWITTER POLL MOTM – thank you to everyone who voted. Arun Jones takes the popular vote too, ahead of Brad & Jimmy Matthews with Kegan also getting votes

So we take our medicine & get ready for a big game on Saturday – we are at home to Bridlington & we really need you all to come out in force & back the boys
