Recap
I’m running out of ways to say ‘The lads gave it a right go but lack of goals cost them again’ so here it is in Welsh (which will please club sponsor TheFirst45!!) – ‘Rhoddodd yr hogia’r tro cywir ond roedd diffyg goliau yn costio iddynt eto’
The Gaffer has brought in 3 new faces & they all featured in the starting line up – Rod Orlando Young came in from Grantham, Nathan Perks from Nostell & Josh Scott from Mansfield Town on a months loan. But as one hand gives, the other hand takes away & we lost Tyler to illness, Rio to injury as well as still being without Joe West, Piteu Crouz & Kegan to add to Beatson legging it to Ossett
Here is what Garforths most eminent science teacher thought about it all:
Stockton Town recorded a regulation win at Westfield Lane yesterday, easing past Frickley by three goals to nil. The first 10 or so minutes were a fairly even spell of long range potshots and misplaced passes, until Frickley’s Josh Chapman made a fine stop from a Kevin Hayes shot. Chapman quickly repeated the trick to a Michael Roberts back heel. Josh Scott then had an opportunity at the other end, firing into the side netting for the home side. The visitors went ahead in the 22nd minute when Roberts got his toe to the loose ball first after Chapman had palmed away a Stockton effort. The home side fought back with a period of dominance, lead by Scott and Rod Orlando Young, but the goal wouldn’t come. Stockton doubled their lead on the stroke of half time when Hayes hit a speculative effort, from just inside halfway, that beat the backpedaling keeper and found its mark. The second period was less than 5 minutes old when the home side had a par of decent chances. Tyreece Robinson had a header cleared off the line and Nathan Perks dragged his shot wide with the goal begging. Neither keeper was unduly troubled for the 15 minutes that followed aside of a header flicked wide by Stockton’s Tom Coulthard. That changed in the 72nd minute when sub Jamie Owens nodded in Stockton’s third to effectively end the game as a contest.
Back to me – another defeat & another goalless performance but I definitely saw the green shoots of improvement in this display. At 1 nil I still fancied us to get something but the fluke 2nd goal killed us off. 3 very decent debuts by the new lads too
We would like to thank the generous fan who sponsored the matchball in memory of Dom Stones & Andy Anderson
WEBMASTER MOTM – another strong display by loanee Matthews, started in midfield & had to move to centre half to cover for the injured Whitehead. Fellow loanee Scott impressed up top too as did The Magic ROY. Big Dev is becoming a midfield powerhouse & Stacey did well at left back (in a game that he probably shouldn’t have been playing in) & Arun came into the game strongly at right back. Chappers in goal made a string of quality saves. But for me the outstanding player in a blue shirt was stand in skipper Michael Hollingsworth – beasted the midfield & lead by example – & he takes the Glitterball
TWITTER POLL MOTM – Rod Orlando Young wins it on debut, followed closely by Holli with James Matthews & Stace The Ace just behind. Chappers also polled votes too. Thank you to everyone who voted
209 through the gate – thank you to everyone who attended – please don’t give up on us
Next Saturday we are away to Pickering in a crucial game – it would be great to see large numbers at the game getting behind the boys
