Recap

Frickley 1 Cleethorpes Town 2

Frickley-Clee games are typically close affairs – neither team has ever won by more than a single goal – and this one was no different. Unfortunately, it was a late winner from Brody Robertson, his second of the game, that narrowly edged Cleethorpes Town past The Blues in this game of few chances.

Frecks was able to name a starting eleven that was unchanged from last week’s win at SPS. On the bench, it was same again too except Jake Askew came in for Gav Saxby.

The first 20 minutes were largely a midfield tussle without an incident of note.

Then out of nothing, a diagonal ball reached Clee’s Robertson who hit an angled volley into the top left corner from 15 yards out to give the visitors the lead. It was a very decent finish, if slightly fortunate.

Clee grazed the post after a goalmouth scramble 4 minutes later and at the other end Nyle Blake fired wide.

However, the next 20 minutes saw the two defensive units in the ascendency.

The highlight of this passage of play was the welcome news that the rumour of there being no chicken curry today was erroneous. Phew!

That high drama was superseded in time added on at the end of the half when Brad Beatson smashed home his first goal for The Azzurri, from a corner to level it at the break. HT 1-1.

The second period started in a similarly attritional manner. The 54th minute introduction of Big Dev Morton appeared to inject some urgency into the Blue attack but this wasn’t converted into goals. The nearest we came was when Rio Molyneaux had a pot shot that went well over.

The draw was looking the most likely and most fair result when Robertson won it for Cleethorpes. Latching onto a loose ball in the 86th minute, he slipped it past Jordan Pierrepoint from the edge of the 6-yard box. FT 1-2.

Despite ultimately coming away with nothing to show for our efforts, again we went toe-to-toe with one of the teams at the top end of the table and were the better side for large parts of the second half. Let’s leave it on that positive as the lads look to come out fighting next week in the heat of another local derby at Sheffield FC!

WEBMASTER MOTM – no-one had a bad game but there were a few standouts. The rat pack of Kegan and Holli and the defensive unit as a whole were solid. And Ty Williams was particularly terrier-like, making the opposition scrap for every inch of ground. Big Dev also looked very lively when he came on as sub. But I’m sorry, I genuinely don’t just copy and paste this bit each week, the Glitterball has to go to Brad Beatson yet again. A colossus all over the park, heads away bricks at one end and can apparently score goals like a striker at the other. We salute you, Captain!

TWITTER POLL MOTM – At the time of writing the poll still has a while to run (coz I set the running time wrongly) but Beast Beatson is running away with it. If owt changes, I’ll let you know. Tyler, Big Dev, Nyle and Kegan also polled. Thanks to everyone who votes/voted.

195 through the gate. Thank you for getting behind the Boys in Blue, it really means the world.

The match was very kindly sponsored by Marie Keegan, Holly King & friends. We thank you for your generosity and hope you had a good day.
