Recap

There’s an old philosophical thought experiment that asks “If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?”. Similarly “if a goal is scored & everyone in the ground sees it apart from the ref & liner, is it still a goal”…..

We are unbeaten in the league in October – all away games too – but it really should be 3 wins out of 3 instead of 3 draws. Another game of 2 halves – we weren’t quite on it in the first half but a masterclass by Jordan Pierrepoint & a Clive Allen-esque ‘ghost goal’ for us ensured that the game was goalless at half time. There was only 1 team in it second half & we could / should have scored on numerous occasions.

Here is the work of a learned scholar (apologies if you’ve read the Non League Paper this morning):

In a game not without controversy, both sides had to settle for a point after a surprisingly watchable nil-nil draw.
The first half was generally an entertaining 45 minutes without a large number of goal scoring opportunities. Adam Priestley probed away down the left for the home side but they were restricted to a couple of long range efforts that forced a save out of Frickley’s Jordan Pierrepoint.
Frickley’s Dev Morton stung the keeper’s hands early on but the visitors looked to have scored on 43 minutes when Brad Wells set up Piteu Crouz. However, Crouz’s shot hit the net and came out again, missed only by the officials. Scoreless it was at the break.
The second period was largely one way traffic towards the Ammas goal, aside of a goalmouth scramble that saw Frickley throwing bodies into the line of fire.
Wells, subs Luis Adlard and Gary King had numerous shots and headers on target, fed in the main by Joe Stacey, but Kyle Trennery stopped the lot. So scoreless it finished too.

Back to me – nil nils are often dour affairs but this one wasn’t, Frickley just didn’t have that final piece of quality to unlock the game

WEBMASTER MOTM – plenty to talk about here. Pierrepoint was outstanding first half & got his deckchair out second half thanks to the back line – particularly the BBW (Burns, Beatson & Whitehead). The Joes were excellent once again & Brad Wells gave another Brad Wells performance. But this Glitterball is going to Brad Beatson. Anyone who listened to the commentary yesterday (& if you didn’t, why not???) will have heard ‘Beatson clears his lines’ ad infinitum

TWITTER POLL MOTM – Joe Stacey takes it this week, he was on fire down the left wing. Wellsy in behind him, Brad Beatson, Holli & Jordan Pierrepoint also got votes. Thank you for taking the time to vote

119 through the gate with about a third of those being Azzurri fans – excellent turn out once again, thank you.

Here’s the Gaffers thoughts on the game

A break from league action now as the boys travel to Radcliffe next Saturday for the next round of the FA Trophy. We will be running a supporters coach to the game leaving North Elmsall at 12.30pm & it’s £15 per person. If you want to book a seat (or seats), give Ian a bell on 07790 569075. It’s always good to see big numbers of Azzurri fans at away games
