Recap
Frickley did their homework, learned lessons, kept their form & showed some class to school Stockton in the art of Rope-A-Dope
Set up in an old fashioned 4-4-2 the Azzurri kept their shape thoughout to leave the North East with a point when they deserved all 3
A cagey game – Brad had a great strike early on which met with an equally good save, Jaz Goundry hit the outside of the post with a header & Wellsy rounded the keeper & was just about to pull the trigger when he ended up on the ground. He didn’t lose his footing & the wind didn’t blow him over……you do the maths!
Nil nil at half time
The returning Joe West (back after a long injury lay off) hit one just high & wide before Crouz, Stacey & Everington linked up superbly to set up The Bomber who stuck it in the onion bag. Cue scenes for a tremendous ‘All Pile On’ behind the goal involving players & travelling Azzurri Ultras. That’s how you celebrate a goal!!
West again & he hits a free kick inches wide of the far post
10 minutes to go & possibly the only time the defence weren’t 100% on it & the home team equalised with a looping header.
The Azzurri saw out the remaining time with Stockton never looking likely to add to their score
So given the reverses of the last few weeks we leave with a point & we feel disappointed
What we need now is to get some of the injured bodies fit & then carry on with the improvement that we showed yesterday
WEBMASTER MOTM – strong performances all over the pitch, the defensive unit was tight & restricted the home team to speculative crosses & long range pot shots that troubled the Science labs more than they did Jake Askew – Holli & Burns being the stand outs. Midfield looked assured with Everington anchoring it (as always) & Stacey always being a dangerous outlet. The Bomber & Piteu Crouz are getting to know each others game & both ran themselves into the ground. But I’m giving the Glitterball to Joe West – unbelievable performance after weeks & weeks out, played the full 90 & was strong all game
TWITTER POLL MOTM – Wellsy with nearly about 40% of the vote with Kegan in 2nd place & Crouz & Danny Burns just in behind him. 1 generous soul gave the Commentary Team a vote (***blushes***). Thank you to everyone who voted
Metts gives his thoughts on the game as does Danny Burns – sorry about the wind interference (I’d eaten a lot of asparagus the night before…..). All interviews are available on our You Tube channel
Cup football coming up next as we travel to Prescot Cables next Saturday in the FA Trophy. We will be running a supporters coach to the game, which will depart North Elmsall at 12 Noon, £15 per person. Contact Ian on 07790 569075 to book your seat(s)
