Recap
With the matchball kindly sponsored by Barry Steakbake, it was 4th vs 2nd – but 4th didn’t do enough in the final third to finish first & move back to second.
The Gaffer brought in Luca Bucci, on loan from Gainsborough. Luca played for us previously but then joined Trinity & he did well on his second debut to provide cover for the unavailable West & Beatson
Frickley had early chances but it was the visitors who took the lead quite fortuitously & despite laying siege to the Ossett goal in the second half the Azurri couldn’t get the goal(s) they deserved.
Here’s what a very wise man thought of it all:
An early goal saw Ossett United just shade it over local rivals Frickley in front of a Friday night crowd of over 460.
The best chance of the opening 15 minutes was an angled shot by Ossett’s James Walshaw, palmed around the post by Ben Bottomley for Frickley.
On 20 minutes Ossett took the lead when Reon Potts slotted in from close range.
Frickley came back into it before half time with a handful of opportunities. A saved drive by Kegan Everington and an effort by Joe Stacey deflected into the side netting were the best of it.
The second period started with Ossett hooking narrowly wide within 60 seconds of the restart.
However, the next half hour saw Frickley taking the ascendancy.
With 20 minutes to go Brad Wells looked to be bundled over in the penalty area but the referee waved away the appeals. Stacey also flashed a couple of smart crosses across the face of goal.
Wells broke through again late on but it wasn’t to be as he dragged his shot wide.
Back to me
Although our roving reporter didn’t dwell on it in his report the main talking point of the 2nd half came when an Ossett defender tried to perform surgery on Brad Wells ankles in the box. Nothing given HOWEVER the referee admitted after the game that he got that one wrong & it should have been a penalty. That doesn’t really help us after the event – but it just goes to show why our Award Winning Media Team are the best in the business. They called it 100% correct – yet again
So we gave it a good crack but it wasn’t to be on this occasion
Here’s what The Gaffer thought about it all – all our interviews are on the Frickley You Tube channel.
WEBMASTER MOTM – good performances all round the park. Young Luca performed well along with the rest of the defensive unit. Woolly, Frecks & Kegan were the engine room. Tyler put in a stellar performance again & Brad ran himself into the ground but I’m giving the Glitterball to Joe Stacey – his pace scared the defenders & with a bit more luck he would have come away with a goal & an assist
TWITTER POLL MOTM – backs up the above, but Tyler wins it with Brad in second then Joe Stacey & Nathan Whitehead. 101 votes – thanks to everyone who took the time to participate
463 through the gate – a magnificent crowd – please come again on Tuesday when we host Marske in a league game, 7:45 kick off
