Recap

A day out with the Haribo Ultras

242 people saw a cracking game of football yesterday that had pretty much everything – including the right result for the large numbers of Frickley fans that were at the game…..

Brad Beatson (new signing from Sheffield FC) made his debut & Paul Sherburn played at right wing back – the Blues were without Brad McGowan who has moved to Grantham & Jack Harrison who has signed for AFC Mansfield. However the boys settled quickly & Todd Jordan had a header cleared off the line with just 5 minutes gone. 5 minutes later the Azzurri were 1 up, when Jonny Margs crashed one home from distance, top bins. He almost doubled his & our tally shortly afterwards after good set up play but his shot went over.

After half an hour, Tyler turned on the afterburners & cut into the box only to be chopped down. Penner & Margs sent the keeper the wrong way, Cool Hand Luke!

Just before half time the home team got one back with a shot that was heading for the car park but 2 wicked deflections on the way diverted it past Tom Jackson.

Sutton Coldfield were certainly up for it when they came out for the 2nd half & the Blues spent long periods defending – Tom pulled off a couple of excellent stops from goal bound efforts. The home team were awarded a penalty (which their own Twitter feed said was ‘fortunate’) on 67 minutes to get back to parity which they duly did.

Frickley were reinvigorated & Tyler cut down the left hand side & pulled the ball back for Haze to smash home (or so it seemed). The ref ruled it out & even our incredibly non-partisan & unbiased Media Team were at a loss as to why he disallowed it. A bit of handbags followed & Haze appeared to get felled by a flailing arm.

Shortly afterwards the ball came to Brad Wells in the box. He twisted & turned before being scythed down – 3rd penner of the game. Margs hit it well but the keeper pulled off a good stop to push his effort over the bar.

Then the home team broke & had a great chance to score from close range but Tom Jackson pulled off an incredible one handed save & the danger was cleared.

6 minutes of added time & we would have been happy for the boys to park the bus & take the point. Nah, not happening! Tyler gets down the left again, cuts in along the bye line & gets the ball in to Haze. No phantom goal this time – Haze fills the onion bag (not you Jerry) from close distance with 95 minutes gone. 108 for the skipper.

Cue massive scenes – an ‘all pile on’ next to the corner flag, even Frecks joined in!!

Final whistle went shortly after & more scenes as the players left the pitch & celebrated with the travelling masses.

A cracking game – 5 goals, 3 penners, unusual officiating, Sutton Coldfield Haribo Ultras making it a great atmosphere, bits of handbags, an appearance by The Undertaker, a visit from the Wiltshire Blues Supporters Club (we love you Shane) & sausage & egg sarnies on white bread from the snack bar.

Now I’ve not been able to sweat due to a traumatic incident a few years back but I certainly came close to it towards the end!!

The Blues were nowhere near the levels that they have been in the their previous 2 matches – but they never stopped & they knew how to win the game.

WEBMASTER MOTM – a few stand outs. Tom Jackson pulled off some quality saves to ensure we took the points. The reshuffled back line were excellent, with Davie giving another Big Dog performance & Tyler created allsorts of trouble when he got forward (won the penalty & set up the Phantom Goal & the winner) & was bang on at the back. Holli & Currie in midfield never stopped battling & Brad, Margs & Haze did their thing. But I’m giving the Glitterball to Todd Jordan. Anyone who was listening to our non partisan & unbiased commentary probably got sick of hearing us say “…..cleared by Jordan…”

TWITTER POLL MOTM – Todd polled well in the Twitter Poll but we all love forward players & the poll was won by Jonny Margs with Haze in 2nd & Tyler just behind him. Thank you to everyone who voted, all votes are carried forward to the November Player of the Month.
