We, in common with many outside the upper echelons of English football, want to go on record that we are wholly opposed to the removal of replays past the first round proper.
There was no consultation with those who make the FA Cup the greatest club competition in the world. As a club that has reached the 3rd Round proper and has featured in replays in the 1st round over the years we know just how special it is and how those memories live on long after the “windfall” has gone.
For the thousands of fans of clubs all over the land its those moments, the possibilities, that are priceless, “getting them back to our place”, “they won’t like it kicking towards the pit end”… the dream of it all being us against the big teams… is now that bit more distant.
The handful of clubs that will benefit from this are the same ones who think nothing of pre-season tours in 3 countries and meaningless friendlies in the desert to appease owners but then talk of player burnout. Try a 40 hour week, two games and training on top!!
Shame on The FA for another decision that takes football away from being the peoples’ game.
