Please see below a short statement from our Chairman following the events of today’s match against Penistone Church:
‘I’d like to issue supporters the following update on today’s game and the welfare of our players.
Will has had a CT scan and is currently awaiting further news on whether he will need to go to theatre for stitching, will find out shortly if that is required
Zav’s arm is now in pot and he is also waiting to be told if he will require an operation or not.
Result aside, as a club we are deeply frustrated with the conduct and lack of regard shown to player welfare from the match officials regarding Will’s injury. After an innocuous challenge on the edge of the area, Will was left unconscious and needed urgent medical attention as a result of a head injury. However, the referee saw fit to allow the game to continue until the ball naturally ran out of play rather than immediately stopping the game.
We hold player safety in the highest regard at our club and to see our Number 1 clearly in distress and not being able to give him medical attention has left us feeling let down by the officials, something that we will be taking further action on.
We wish both players a speedy recovery and will keep supporters updated accordingly as we learn more on their conditions.
From myself, the board and the management team, we thank you all for your tremendous support this season and look forward to seeing you back at the Wezzie in the summer
Phil
