In my time I’ve seen The Beautiful South, Oliver North & Fred (f)East
Well now, dear people we can ALL get to see Joe West!!
We are delighted to announce the signing of Joe West – a defender – who joins us from Farsley Celtic having previously played for Sheffield Wednesday.
I talked to him over the weekend & he told me about his thoughts on joining the club, the ‘joy’ of playing against Reece James, Callum Hudson-Odoi & Mason Mount & why he loves a hole in one
Webmaster – tell us a bit about yourself. What position you play, what type of player are you & who have you played for previously
Joe West – I am a left sided player, usually operate at full back/wingback. I am very attack minded however like to do the defensive stuff also. I have bags of energy and this allows me to constantly get up and down the pitch like full back/wing backs should be doing now a days. I signed for Sheffield Wednesday in 2015 then went on to sign a two year scholarship which was followed up by a two year professional contract. Last year I then joined Farsley Celtic.
WM – what about life outside football – family / other interests etc
JW – In terms of life outside of football, I love to spend time with my family and my girlfriend. I also love to play golf!
WM – who is the best player that you’ve played with or against & why
JW – The best player I have played against.. I have played against some very good players, I would say it’d have to be facing Chelsea in the FA Youth Cup when I was playing left full back and I had Reece James at RWB then Callum Hudson-Odoi right wing. That team was a joke with the likes of others like Mason Mount in the team, it was a tough night!
WM – & who was your hero when you got into playing football
JW – My hero when growing up would have to be Steven Gerrard, as being a Liverpool fan, he always gave his all no matter what.
WM – how did the phone call go when Frecks got in touch about joining us this season?
JW – I spoke to Frecks in March and there was interest from him then and it took me a while to figure out what I wanted to do this year but I am very excited to work with him, he’s a great guy.
WM – what’s your ultimate ambition in football? Where do you want to be in 5 or 10 years time?
JW – My ultimate ambition in football is most importantly to enjoy playing and seeing where it can then take me. All I want to do now is get my head down, work hard and see were I can go in the game.
WM – what are your hopes for the team, & for yourself, this season
JW – This year as a team I believe we should be looking no where else other than getting promotion, it seems like we have a good group of players that will work hard for one another. My personal targets for the season ahead are to get as many assists as possible and also add a couple of goals.
WM – did you get to play at Hillsborough during your time at Wednesday? We’ve played a few cup finals there over the years.
JW – Yes I got the opportunity to play at Hillsborough on a lot of occasions in my time at Sheffield Wednesday, it is a great stadium!
Welcome aboard Joe West
