Alex Varley extends stay!! The former Ponte Colls, Hallam and Handsworth defender commits for the upcoming 2023/24 season
Manager Pat McGuire commented: “I’m really pleased Varls has committed to us for the upcoming season. He’s had offers from elsewhere, including far more lucrative ones, so it’s great for us to see our lads are bought in to what we want to achieve here and Varls will have a big part to play in that. It was unfortunate Alex missed a couple of games at the end of last season and when he wasn’t in the back four, it showed, so we’re thrilled to have him at the Wezzie again for what we hope will be an exciting season”
Varley commented: “Really pleased to be back on board. Proper football club with great people throughout. Really enjoyed what Pat and Blake instilled towards the end of last season so looking forward to a full pre season with them. Hopefully the supporters will come in their numbers again and hopefully we’ll be competing at the right end of the league table. Roll on pre season, up the Blues!”
The ever reliable and vocal defender is another experienced player in the ranks alongside the likes of Collier and Keita. Varley made 19 appearances last season, scoring 1 goal to help the club comfortably avoid relegation.
Another massive player to have committed for 2023/24. Great to have you back Varls!!
